Triple H joins Kevin Kelly and Doctor Tom Prichard live in the studio for Byte This. They ask Triple H to talk about his upcoming Hell in a Cell match against Chris Jericho, and ask him what kind of mental preparation will he make. Triple H said "It's brutal, it's violent, and it ends careers." He went on to say that you have to keep focused on your goal, and disconnect the pain in your mind.
Tom commented that Jericho being his opponent has to weigh on his mind since he's the one who almost ended his career. Triple H said you have to understand and accept that fact that if you don't make it, you don't make it. He said Jericho hasn't gotten that into his head yet, and he (Triple H) can tell by his body language that it's scaring the hell out of him.
Kelly asked if this would be the final chapter in Triple H's feud with Jericho. Triple H said it will close a chapter of it, but it won't end the feud. They are looking to end each other's careers, and it's as simple as that.
Kelly asked was it tough for Triple H to shake Hogan's hand after he took the title from him at Backlash. Triple H said it wasn't tough at all. He said you have to remember Hogan is like Babe Ruth, and he's a legend in this business. He said he meant everything he said before that match, because it's his time and not Hogan's. Hogan knows that, and understands Triple H because of it. He said he was proud to shake Hogan's hand, but the way he won the title...Taker helped Hogan win it, so if Taker wins it from Hogan, he'll know in the back of his mind that Triple H is coming after him to take HIS title back. He's in the best shape of his life, and when he gets the chance he'll go after Taker full force.
Kelly asked Triple H for his thoughts on the push Edge is apparently receiving. Triple H said Edge seems to be moving into his territory. He said Edge is on his way up, and he thinks and he deserves to be up there with the top carders.
Kelly and Tom talk about Triple H's career from his first big push at KotR against Mankind up to now, then Tom asked Triple H how his knee is doing. Triple H said the kneecap was actually broken, not chipped, and it was the same leg he tore the quad on. He said it happened right before Wrestlemania X8, but there's so much numbness from the surgery that he didn't feel any pain; just a tug. When he went to have an x-ray and MRI done, that's when they found the broken kneecap. He said at first the doctor didn't know what he was looking at, and when he realized it he just shook his head.
They asked Triple H about locker room leadership, and he said he and Taker are the ones the guys in the locker room look to for leadership.
Next up are questions about the plane incident. Triple H said the two guys that were let go weren't really let go, "they just misplaced their pants". He said they had a wildly sucessful PPV tour in the UK, and were on the runway for an hour or more before the plane took off. Everybody got to partying, and continued to do so for the next eight hours of the flight. Unfortunately things got a little out of hand for a couple of people on the flight in those last two hours or so, and they paid for it.
A caller asked Triple H which Hell in a Cell was his favorite. Triple H said the one with Shawn Michaels was the best, but Mick's was the scariest.
They then began discussing the roster split. Triple H said that Raw is having a hard time getting organized, and it's mostly due to the problems with the nWo. With Hall being gone and Nash being out with an injury, they have their work cut out for them. When Steve Austin can walk away from a match where Flair chose the lumberjacks, something definitely needs to be better organized. Maybe Flair needs to keep creating his own brand and style, but it's taking longer than he planned. There are a lot of different factors that are keeping Raw from being as seamless as Smackdown is.
Tom asked Triple H his opinion on the Hogan/Flair match that took place last Monday on Raw. Triple H said it was a mistake to book the match when they did. It should have had a better build-up and promotion, then it would have gotten the respect it deserved. He said the young fans didn't want to see two veterans like Hogan and Flair wrestle; they wanted to see the young guys from backstage wrestle. He said it was a great match; just promoted wrong.
Kelly aksed for Triple H's thoughts on the new break-out stars like Randy Orton, D-Von and and the Deacon. Triple H said Randy Orton is on the move, and he's a hot ticket right now. He said D-Von's affiliation with Vince has got him on the inside track, and the Deacon is a wait and see, but is in the right company to do something spectacular like he did in OVW.
Kelly asked Triple H if he's been watching Tough Enough 2, and Triple H said he did catch the episode where Maven and Nidia were giving the contestants advice. Triple H sneered and said he thought to himself "Who the heck are you guys?!?" Tom piped up with "back when I broke into wrestling in 2001...", which cracked everybody up.
A caller asked how Triple H works out to keep his physique in such great shape. Triple H said he's been weight training since he was a boy, and he trains to buiid strength, not bulk. He said the bulk comes with the stength. He eats right and keeps focused. Tom said he has his own training program and gets a few laughs for that.
They talked about the Hardyz vs Lesnar/Heyman match at Judgement Day, and Triple H described Heyman as a jelly donut that's wrapped badly. He said he had the opportunity to work with Lesnar while they were in the UK, and he was impressed with his skills. He said he should be ok as long as he doesn't "lose his pants".
Kelly aksed him about the WWF name change, and Triple H said the name may have changed, but the product hasn't. They're still the best in professional wrestling, they're still New York, and they're still the show.
A caller aksed if there are any plans for reforming DX. Triple H said he's done the DX thing, and doesn't see what reforming it would do to improve over what they did back then. Then again, in this business you never say never, and if the nWo gets to where they want to jump on him, then we'll see.
Tom and Kelly then thanked Triple H for coming in and wished him luck in the Hell in Cell match Sunday to end the show.
